Matisse have maintained the mission to be New Zealand’s leading supplier of future proofed, sustainable, world-class designs that create ‘inspirational’ places to live and work. With that comes the need to offer a timeless website design system supported by a second to none e-commerce user experience.

Alongside the aesthetic requirements were the equally important business needs. The new website needed to drive an increase in qualified traffic via SEO, achieve an increase in website sales, net a greater quantity of valuable enquiries, and meet the needs of three seperate and distinct buyer audiences, which covered residential home owners, developers and commercial clients — delivering an enjoyable and seamless e-commerce website experience.

With the team at NV Interactive, we started from the ground up, working through from a website discovery and UX strategy to a validated wireframe prototype and creative direction for the finished UI Design. Activities included:

Auditing and User Research:

We kicked-off the project with a comprehensive look at Matisse's current website, including google analytics, identifying where friction was impacting effectiveness, and documenting what the website needed to achieve in order to meet the client's business goals.

User Personas:

User personas from all audience segments were created, detailing mental models and motivations as well as practical needs and frustrations. This insight was then used to perform user scenario mapping.

Information Architecture:

The information from previous stages was used to construct a website blueprint — mapping out the various content types, content areas and functionality required to produce a successful end product, based on the needs of the users, business goals, and SEO strategy. This included journey nuances for audience segments, reorganised product structures, and improved content & functionality.

Prototyping:

All insight and documentation from previous stages was used to construct a wireframe prototype that embodied all of the recommendations and improvements identified in the UX strategy process. A core area of consideration was testing and refining the product buying process, from initial product search to product purchase or enquiry.
